Worship Philosophy

The essence of biblical worship is that all of life should be lived with the goal of glorifying and honoring our almighty, triune God (Colossians 3:17).

At Living Hope Church, our purpose in corporate worship is to encourage our congregation, both as individuals and as the gathered Body of Christ, to passionately love God, to love each other, and to engage the world through making disciples.

Our weekly celebration is meant to be an essential part of a life devoted to God. When we come together we are first and foremost adoring God. Secondarily, by coming together, believers are edified, equipped and encouraged to fully embrace a lifestyle of worship.

Worship Values

  1. God-glorifying: All true worship glorifies God, and he alone is fully worthy of our praise (1 Corinthians 10:31).
  2. Christ-centered, cross-centered, gospel-centered: We are distinctively Christian people, therefore our worship must glorify Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and highlight the gospel of grace (1 Corinthians 2:2).
  3. Spirit-powered: The Holy Spirit is the key to Christian worship. He dwells in us, frees us to truly worship, and fills us—empowering us to worship God (John 4:23; Ephesians 5:18-20).
  4. Bible-saturated: Our worship should be conformed to authoritative Word of God as well as affirm it (2 Timothy 3:1617).
  5. Church-building: Through corporate worship, we build up one another. Worship should also help an unbeliever understand the gospel of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 10:2425; 1 Corinthians 14:26).
  6. Joyous gravity: Worship of God is serious, so it can never be flippant nor morose. Instead, worship should lead us to grow in awe of God and deepen our joy in him (Isaiah 8:11-14; Psalm 43:3-4).
  7. Head and heart: Worship teaches us about God and reinforces our faith, but not in a lifeless way. Worship heightens our emotions, but never divorced from revealed truth. Both the head and the heart must be engaged for full worship (2 Samuel 6:14; Revelation 19:14).
  8. Humble skill: In all we do, our service must direct attention to the One we worship and not become a distraction. The skill of leaders must be high so as to not cause any stumbling blocks, but great skill must be wielded in a way that does not divert attention to itself. (Exodus 36:1).
